Surveys

In 2019, the Parks and Recreation Department identified certain parks that needed to be improved through the 2019-2024 Capital Improvement Plan. Two parks are located in the Plum Creek neighborhood, which include a small park on the south end of the development that has been owned and operated by the Town of Castle Rock since the early 1990’s and a 7-acre park developed in the same timeframe that was recently acquired from the Plum Creek Golf Course.  Both parks are in disrepair and require improvement.

The Town park located on the south end of the development was constructed on property identified as a potential future Douglas County School Site; however, the site has been used for park purposes for over 20-years and is owned by the Town.  The existing playground, concrete flatwork and site furniture requires replacement.  There may be opportunities to include additional amenities or trails on the property, but the Town will want to limit scope to some degree in the event the School District chooses to exercise their option to develop a school on the property.

Possible improvements include:
Plum Creek South Site

  • Removal and replacement of the existing playground
  • Removal of the half basketball court with potential to replace or repurpose
  • Replacement of site furniture
  • Potential for adding dedicated sustainable unpaved trails through the property
  • Potential for adding a picnic pavilion or other amenities

The Plum Creek Golf Course operated a community pool, tennis courts and playground on the central Plum Creek Park site.  The pool has not been operational for over seven years and initial assessments by staff indicate that the pool is not salvageable.   The Town does not anticipate reconstructing and operating this pool and it is assumed that most existing improvements will require demolition.  The Town anticipates considerable interest in site planning for both properties, but especially for the central park site.

Possible improvements include:
Plum Creek North Site

  • Demolition of the existing pool and pool house
  • Explore the option of preserving or relocating the existing pavilion
  • Repair and replacement of walkways
  • Demolition of existing tennis courts
  • Repair of existing parking lot
  • Master planning for park improvements / upgrades

As a Gold Medal Award winning agency, the Parks and Recreation Department strives to keep the Town’s parks maintained to a high standard.

These upgrades will be funded by the Conservation Trust Fund (CTF) which is comprised of three different sources: Colorado Lottery Funds, Douglas County Share Back and recreation licenses.

The surveys below, have been created to garner feedback from the neighborhood as to what your priorities are and what you’d like included in the upcoming renovation. This will ensure that both DHM Design, the project landscape architect, and the Town of Castle Rock are placing resources where they are most desired.  The surveys listed below will help to direct where we focus our efforts and assist in the overall design.
